Vang: a collaboration between Mary Swander, Pulitzer Prize Winning Photographer Dennis Chamberlin, and Kennedy Center award-winning director Matt Foss. Swander and Chamberlin documented interviews with recent immigrant Iowa farmers to create Vang. Swander then wounf their words together to form a verbatim play that captures their struggles, survival skills, and ultimate journeys to the US.

Map of my Kingdom: a play commissioned by Practical Farmers of Iowa, tackles the critical issue of land transition. In this drama, Angela Martin, lawyer and mediator in land transition disputes, shares stories of how farmers and landowners she has worked with over the years approached their land successions. Some families almost came to blows, struggling to resolve the sale or transfer of their land, and dissolving relationships.

This event was made possible by funding from Humanities Iowa, Kalona Library Foundation, and Friends of the Kalona Public Library.

The performance will run under 2 hours and be followed by a brief talk-back led by Mary Swander and the actors.
